The steps, in order
Copy it, and understand what it is
It sits in your activation message shaped like http://server:port/get.php with your username and password attached as parameters. That is the important part: the credentials are inside the address. Treat it exactly as you would a password, and resist pasting it into a group chat however helpful the impulse.
Paste it into the player
VLC wants Media, then Open Network Stream. Smart IPTV takes it at siptv.app/mylist. Kodi needs the IPTV Simple Client add-on and its M3U URL field. TiViMate and Smarters will both accept one, though in those two the Xtream login serves you distinctly better.
Add the guide separately if asked
Some players want the schedule supplied on its own. It is the same server address ending in xmltv.php with your credentials attached, and support will send it on request. Players that need this generally also need telling how often to refresh it.
Ask for a shorter list if the device is slow
The full playlist carries every category and simple players parse the lot before showing anything at all. Support can build one narrowed to what you actually watch, which loads in a fraction of the time on modest television hardware and is the single best thing you can do for an older set.
Keep the Xtream login as your default
Use the M3U only where a player leaves you no alternative. It carries no schedule of its own, and a channel list of this size without a guide attached is genuinely unpleasant to navigate after the first evening. Where a player offers both, the Xtream login is the better tool every time: it reconnects rather than re-parsing, it brings the guide and the on-demand library, and it recovers from a dropped connection more gracefully. The M3U exists for the handful of players that never learned to do any of that.
What usually goes wrong on this device
It takes forever to load
There are thousands of entries and a basic player reads every one before displaying anything. Either move to a player that understands categories, such as TiViMate or Smarters, or ask for the filtered version. On a slow television the difference is a minute against a few seconds.
Channel numbers keep moving
A playlist carries the order the server sends, and that order changes as channels are added upstream. If you navigate by number this will keep happening. Building a favourites list inside the player insulates you from it entirely.
It works in VLC but not on the television
Television players are far less tolerant of very large playlists than a desktop application is. Ask for the filtered version, or use the Xtream login if the app supports it. The account is healthy in both cases; only the delivery differs.
Half the channels are missing
A filtered playlist carries only the categories it was built for. If you asked for a shorter list and now want more, ask support to rebuild it. Nothing is wrong with the account; the list is simply narrower than the subscription behind it.
Choosing between the M3U and the Xtream login, properly
The rule is simple and worth stating plainly: if a player offers both, take the Xtream login every time. It reconnects rather than re-parsing a large file, it brings the schedule and the on-demand library with it, and it recovers from a dropped connection far more gracefully. Use the M3U only where a player understands nothing else, which in practice means VLC, Kodi and Smart IPTV. Where you are stuck with it, two things make it tolerable: ask support for a filtered list containing only what you watch, which loads in a fraction of the time on modest hardware, and build a favourites list inside the player so that upstream channel reordering stops mattering. If neither helps and the device supports Xtream, switch; a weekend of a playlist behaving oddly is usually what persuades people.

Asked about the M3U playlist
Why do free M3U lists stop working?
Because they are scraped feeds republished for anyone to take, so thousands of people hit one source simultaneously. The host blocks them or simply falls over, usually within days, and nobody answers when it breaks. A paid playlist answers to your account alone, which is the whole difference.
Is it the same as my Xtream login?
The same account in a different wrapper. The M3U address contains your username and password inside it as parameters, which is exactly why it should be treated as a secret. Anyone holding that address holds your subscription until it is reissued.
Does it change when I renew?
No. Renewing extends the same account, so the address, username and password all stay as they were. If a link stops working just after a renewal, the renewal has not been applied yet rather than the address having changed.
Can I share the link with family?
You can, and you should understand what it means: the credentials are inside the address, so they are using your subscription and your stream limit. On a busy evening one of you will be locked out. If two households genuinely want it, a multi-stream plan costs less than the argument.
Is the M3U less reliable than the Xtream login?
In practice yes, though not because the account differs. A playlist is a snapshot the player re-reads, so it drifts out of date and recovers badly from interruptions. The Xtream login is a live connection to the same account and handles both situations better.
Does the M3U work in Kodi?
Yes, through the IPTV Simple Client add-on, which has an M3U URL field and a separate one for the guide. Kodi is powerful and fiddly in roughly equal measure, so unless you already run it for something else, a dedicated player will have you watching considerably sooner.
